Levels of structural change

Abstract We investigate structural change in the PR China during a period of particularly rapid growth 1998-2014. For this, we utilize sectoral data from World Input-Output Database and firm-level Chinese Industrial Enterprise Database. Starting with correlation laws known literature (Fabricant’s laws), which empirical regularities hold at level show that many these correlations cannot be recovered firm level. more detailed analysis, propose multi-level framework, is validated empirically. perform robust regression, since various input variables as well residuals exploratory OLS regressions are found to heavy-tailed. conclude Fabricant’s other primarily characteristics rely on aspects like infrastructure, technology level, innovation capabilities, knowledge base relevant labor force. illustrate our analysis by showing development some larger sectors detail offer policy implications context economics, evolutionary industrial organization.
